A brand-new shopping mall constructed at more than R250 million and the first ever in a Free State township outside Mangaung Metro, opened it's doors on March 24, 2016 in Thabong, Matjhabeng Local Municipality, in the Lejweleputswa District.
Fittingly named Boitumelo (joy or happiness) Junction Shopping Mall, the project created 250 employment opportunities during the construction process and ensured that 300 additional employment opportunities have been created following the completion through retail, cleaning as well as venue management services.
The new Boitumelo Junction Shopping Mall on the corner of Nkoane and Phakathi Drive in Thabong is hailed as reflecting investor’s trust in the future and growth potential of Matjhabeng Local Municipality. The total GLA is 21 500m² and consists of major retailers such as Boxer, Shoprite, Truworths, Foschini, Edgars together with smaller retailers. It boasts various restaurants, including a KFC Drive Through, which is also a first for Thabong.
The Mall was officially opened by the Premier of the Free State, Ace Magashule on the 24th March 2016,the event was also graced by the Executive Mayor of Matjhabeng, Hon Cllr S Ngangelizwe.
